UPDATED: Mason Co. Sheriff Identifies Suspect Who Shot At Deputy Near Shelton
Update: The Mason County Sheriff’s Office has reportedly apprehended Joshua Weythman Baker, the suspect who allegedly shot at a deputy during a chase.
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who shot at a deputy during a pursuit as Joshua Weythman Baker, 27, of Shelton.
The following is the text of a press release from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office:
Joshua Weythman Baker, 27, of Shelton, has been identified as the suspect driver who shot at a Mason County Sheriff’s Deputy during a pursuit that began shortly after 11pm in the Agate area East of Shelton.
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is seeking any information on the whereabouts of Joshua Weythman Baker who should be considered armed and dangerous. Citizens are advised to call 911 immediately if they know the location of this suspect.
Joshua Wethman Baker is described as:
• 27 year-old white male
• 200 lbs
• Blonde hair
• Blue eyes
The photos provided are approximately one year old.
Joshua Weythman Baker has two felony warrants for escape from DOC Community Custody and for Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
On March 31, 2016, shortly after 11pm, a Mason County Sheriff’s Deputy engaged in a pursuit with a vehicle which was initially travelling at 40 mph above the posted speed limit.
During the pursuit, the suspect displayed a firearm and shot from the moving vehicle. The deputy backed off from the suspect vehicle but continued to pursue.
The vehicle stopped and the suspect driver exited the vehicle with a firearm. A female passenger also exited the vehicle. The deputy fired at the armed suspect.
The suspect driver and the female passenger both ran from the scene.
Two tracking K-9s and the King County Sheriff’s Office Guardian 1 helicopter assisted with the search but the suspect was not apprehended.
Currently, the Region 3 Critical Incident Response Team lead by the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident which is standard procedure in all officer involved shootings.
Agencies involved with the investigation include the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, King County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, Shelton Police Department, Squaxin Police Department, and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
It is not believed that anyone was injured during this incident.
