A Belfair man died in a four-car crash in Gorst early Thursday morning. The man suspected of causing the accident has been arrested on charges of DUI and vehicular homicide, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Delyle Edgar Machacek, a 71-year-old man from Belfair, died at the scene of the accident, according to a Washington State Patrol report.

The accident occurred at 5:21 a.m. Thursday on East Highway 16 in Gorst, one mile west of Port Orchard.

Andrew David Tobler, a 30-year-old man from Fircrest, was driving a white 2003 Ford Ranger pickup truck southbound on Highway 3, and was merging onto eastbound Highway 16, according to the report. Meanwhile,  Machacek was pulling his blue 2004 Kia Rio out of a 76 station.

Tobler rear-ended Machacek; Machacek lost control and went across the center median into oncoming traffic in the westbound lanes, the report states. Machacek’s car reportedly struck a gray 2010 Toyota Prius head-on. The driver of the Prius — a 56-year-old Olalla woman — was injured and transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital, the report states.

Both Machacek and the Olalla woman were struck by a black, 1996 Chevrolet S10 pickup driven by a 34-year-old man from Port Orchard, according to the report.

Tobler, who was injured in the accident, is suspected of driving under the influence, and was booked into Kitsap County Jail, according to the report. The WSP is investigating charges of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence, the report states.
