Man, child dead in Lake Limerick murder-suicide

A 52-year-old man and 17-month-old child are dead after an apparent murder-suicide in Lake Limerick, near Shelton.

Around 6 p.m. Thursday, July 23, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from a woman requesting a welfare check on her estranged husband and two small children residing at a residence in the 700 block of E. Road of Tralee, which is located in the community of Lake Limerick, about six miles north of Shelton.

The woman, Desiree Durcan, 32, of Shelton, said she had just recently separated from her husband, 52-year-old Sean Durcan of Shelton, and had sought refuge at a local motel, according to a press release from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

She said she was worried about her estranged husband and the two children, because she was unable to contact them. She told deputies Sean had become “despondent” due to the separation.

When deputies responded to the residence they smelled a “strong odor of gasoline” coming from the house. When deputies entered the residence, they found a four-year-old boy sitting in the living room area.  He was escorted out of the residence and given to his mother.

After searching the residence, deputies found Sean Durcan dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A deceased 17-month old child was found with him.

The sheriff’s office says no further information is currently available due to the ongoing investigation.
