Police Arrest Suspected Hit-And-Run Driver

Police arrested a 22-year-old Bremerton man on Sunday on suspicion of involvement in a hit-and-run accident on Harlow Drive.

A press release describes what happened like this:

During the initial investigation, the registered owner of the suspect vehicle reportedly told officers his vehicle had been stolen from the Harborside Commons parking garage in downtown Bremerton sometime after 4 p.m. Saturday. The owner later filed a stolen vehicle report with Bremerton police.

On Monday, Bremerton police detectives reviewed surveillance video from the parking garage security cameras. They were able to see footage of the vehicle’s theft and create still photos of the suspect, which were distributed to local law enforcement agencies.

Within minutes of the photos being distributed, a detective with the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office recognized the suspect and gave a name to Bremerton Police.

The name was broadcast to local agencies. Ten minutes later, the suspect was seen walking on lower Wheaton Way by Bremerton police detectives.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident. When interviewed, he reportedly admitted to both the theft of the motor vehicle, and his involvement in the hit-and-run collision. He was booked into the Kitsap County Jail on a charge of motor vehicle theft. Bail was set at $50,000.

The Kitsap County Prosecuting Attorney is reportedly considering felony hit-and-run charges in connection with the collision.
