A Kingston man who allegedly fled the scene of a car accident in Keyport yesterday faces hit-and-run and DUI charges.
The accident reportedly occurred around 10 p.m. on Highway 308, about a half mile west of Keyport.
Here’s what happened, according to a Washington State Patrol report:
Jeremiah J.A. Barrett, 23, of Kingston, was headed eastbound on Highway 308 in a white, 2003 Ford Taurus; a 46-year-old Poulsbo woman was also headed eastbound in a silver 2003 Subaru Forester.
Barrett reportedly struck the Forester from behind. The driver of the Forester regained control of her vehicle and brought it to a stop. Barrett swerved to the left and struck a guardrail. His car rotated and came to rest against the westbound guardrail. Barrett allegedly fled the scene, and was later apprehended and arrested.
Barrett was injured and transported to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton.
Both drivers reportedly wore seatbelts.
Drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident, according to the WSP’s report.
The WSP report lists the cause of the accident as Barrett following too closely, and lists charges for Barrett as DUI and hit-and-run.
